Roy Gene Hurley

Roy proudly served in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring honorably as a Staff Sergeant. A decorated Vietnam veteran, he served with the 1st Psychological Operations Battalion (Airborne) and worked as both a photolithographer and illustrator, using his technical skill and precision in support of military operations. During his military career, he traveled extensively while serving his country. His courageous and distinguished service earned him numerous military honors, including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four campaign stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Unit Citation.

Following his retirement from the Army, Roy earned an associate degree in architecture before beginning a long career in the printing industry, where his attention to detail, creativity, and craftsmanship continued to define his work.

On October 17, 1981, Roy married the love of his life, Elizabeth L. Cameron. Together they shared nearly 45 years of marriage, building a home rooted in devotion, faith, and steadfast love.

He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Hurley; his brother Jack Hurley and his wife Dee; his children Mechelle Bach and her husband Jeff, Angelina Hurley, Rebecca Hurley, Amber Conner and her husband Brandon, and Cameron Hurley; his grandchildren Nicole, Timmy, Oliver, Troy, Caroline, and Charlotte; and his great-grandchildren, Milo, Mavis, and Raynesme.

Roy is also survived by many extended family members, dear friends, fellow veterans, and brothers and sisters in Christ who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reta and Donald Hurley, and his brother, Edwin Hurley.

Roy found beauty in both the ordinary and the extraordinary, from quiet days spent fishing to the creativity he expressed through painting and art. He also found great joy in sharing his knowledge and skills with others.

A man of deep faith, Roy served as a deacon at Lake Lynn Baptist Church. Those who knew him will remember his strength, conviction, creativity, and deep love for his family.

Visitation with family and friends will be held at Lake Lynn Baptist Church, 3363 Gillespie St., Fayetteville, NC 28306, on July 29, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Rd., Fayetteville, North Carolina, on July 29, 2026, immediately following the service.

Roy will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored by all who knew him.
