Ruben Dario Chico-Rodriguez Sr.

Ruben Dario Chico-Rodriguez Sr., age 78, passed away on March 16, 2026. He was born on August 26, 1947. Ruben was an honest, compassionate, loving, and resilient man whose steady presence and devotion to those around him will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Ruben moved to New York as a teenager to attend Julliard on a scholarship. He later joined the United States Army in San Juan, Puerto Rico, beginning a life of service marked by discipline, commitment, and pride. Ruben retired from the Army in 1993 as a Master Sergeant.

Ruben met his wife, Eulalia, in Panama City, Panama, and together they were blessed with three children. He is survived by his wife, Eulalia Chico; his children, Ruben D. Chico-Robles Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, Shirley M. Chico, and Shirleen M. Chico; his grandchildren, Ajaleann Chico-Romo, Jazmene -Nicole Chico-Romo, Ruben Chico-Romo III, and Ruben Chico-Romo IV; his 9 great grandchildren; his brother, Jose Luis Chico and his wife Lydia; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved dog, JoJo.

Ruben was an avid fisherman who found peace near the water and joy in the simple gifts of the outdoors. He enjoyed reading and watching TV, and he especially loved nature and being outside—quiet moments that reflected the calm strength he carried throughout his life.

A visitation with family and friends will be held at Reeves Funeral Home, 3308 N Main St, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348, on March 24, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at Reeves Funeral Home on March 24, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 400 Murchison Rd., Spring Lake, North Carolina 28390, on March 24, 2026.
