Ruth Lee Ussery

Ruth was born to Effie and Rufus Moody on July 1, 1946. She grew up on in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Orrum, NC 13 years ago.

Ruth loved word search puzzles and crocheting. When she wasn’t crocheting or solving puzzles, Ruth spent a lot of time outside, whether it was fishing, spending time with animals or simply driving to Sonic to get a diet coke. She also loved collecting dolls. Ruth also loved Orrum Baptist Church, where she attended and participated different services. One of the last things Ruth told her granddaughter was “we need to go vote soon”. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Doug Ussery; her son Douglas McArthur Ussery Jr; and her life partner Robert Dare of 30 years. She is survived by her children Kathy McCrory (William Stephens), Linda Jones (Russell), and Cindy K. Dudley (Randy). Her brother Rufus Leroy Moody, sister Shirley Spergon. Grandchildren Bradley McCrory (Cigi), Summer McCrory, Robert Desautels, Jac Carey (DJ), Katie Ussery. 3 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 2 pm, at Orrum Baptist Church, 5255 Atkinson Rd, Orrum, North Carolina 28369.
