
Rusty grew up in Guam and joined the US Army in April 1967. He served his Country honorably for over 19 years. His career originated in the MACVSOG, and he also served in the 5th Special Forces Group, and retired while serving under the 7th Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg, NC.
Rusty served bravely during two tours in the Vietnam War earning the prestigious Bronze Star Medal. In addition, he earned the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.
Rusty never met a stranger and was known for helping anyone he came in contact with. During his retirement, he enjoyed reading, playing golf, and spending time with his family.
Rusty passed away on April 29, 2018, in Cape Fear Valley Hospital after an illness.
Rusty is survived by his wife, Susan, daughters, Lori Reed and her husband, of San Diego, CA, Luci Peak and her husband, of Richmond Hill, GA, and Samantha Isham, and her husband of Crestview, FL, four grandchildren, Madison, Sophia, Ariel, and Michael, a sister, Suzanne Turnbull and her husband and a brother, James Prim and his wife, and many other family members including cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Prim.
Rusty’s wishes are being honored and he will be laid to rest on May 5, 2018 in the Pawnee Indian Cemetery in the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma.
