

Alex was born on July 21, 1932, to Lee Roy and Trulie Harris in Elizabethtown, NC. During high school he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army for two years. After completion of his active duty commitment, he completed 8 years of service in the army reserve. He returned to North Carolina, started the trade as a carpenter and in 1961 married the love of his life, Ella Mae Upton. Together they provided a solid, loving, Christian home for their three children, Robin, Kevin and Sissy. He was a member of Cotton Volunteer Fire Department and after 25 years of service he retired in 1997 with the rank of Assistant Fire Chief.
He was a man of simplicity, who loved God, his family and his country. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Uncle, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather.
Alex was preceded in his death by his parents, Lee Roy and Trulie Harris, his brother Sidney Harris, two sisters Betty Lou Hyman and Myrtle Gautier. He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae; his brothers Owen Harris, Thomas (Betty) Davis; his sister Helen (Junior) Furches; his three children, Robin (Mark) Jones, Kevin (Brandi) Harris, and Mary "Sissy" (Mark) Betts; his nine grandchildren, RJ, Toni, Asheley, Katie, Alexis, Laura, Annagrace, AJ and Chloe; seven great-grandchildren, Seth, Landon, Macey, Addison, Edith, Brynlee, and Liam; and many nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cotton Volunteer Fire Department in Hope Mills, NC.
A visitation for family and friends for William will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 3308 N Main St, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348. A funeral service will occur Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hope Mills Church of God, 4830 Cameron Rd, Hope Mills, North Carolina 28348. A burial with military honors will occur Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, North Carolina.
