Mr. Arthur Hubert Wellinger

Arthur H. Wellinger Major, USAF, Retired, died Thursday, January 29th, 2015. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 5, 1923, the only child of Leonard and Beatrice Wellinger. His wife, Helen L (Jackson) Wellinger predeceased him in February 1994. Over the later years, Arthur felt his life was blessed by virtue of his family and his many wonderful friendships made. He served over twenty years in our countries military service, during which time there were several military actions, including World War two. Arthur is survived by two daughters, Shanna K Gilg (Rick) and Karen S Wheatley (Kenneth III), three granddaughters including their families providing five great-grandchildren; also a half-sister, Gloria Bozak, and half-brother, Leonard Wellinger, plus their families, and a very special friend, Nan Merchant. After his military service in 1963, he moved and was engaged as an independent agent for several different organizations, the later eighteen years as an independent sales representative for International Computer Service, headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas. He devoted a considerable amount of his time and effort over the later years to assisting with the funding for, development and maintenance of the veterans memorial of Garland County. He was an active initial member of the local Air Force Association, chapter 270, since its activation in 1988, and a member of the American Legion, post 13 for over fifty years. Arthur was also a member of MOAA, TROA, and the local order of the Elks #380. He was baptized and raised Episcopal. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 pm, Sunday February 1st, 2015 at Gross Funeral Home. Graveside service with full military honors will be 2:00 pm, Monday, February 2nd, 2015 at Crestview Cemetery with Ken Wheatley officiating.
