Betty Swaim Watts of Hot Springs, AR, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 16th. Betty was the third of seven children born to Gilbert Swaim and Clara Williams Swaim in Bluffton, AR on January 29, 1936. She graduated from Gould High School. Betty married Robert J. (Bud) Watts on December 23, 1956. Eight years later they welcomed their only daughter, Cynthia, in December of 1964.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents of Crossett, formerly Aly, AR, her husband Robert; brother Boyce Swaim of Houston, TX; and sister Euldean Swaim of Livingston Parish, LA. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Watts Faulk of Hot Springs; sister Bobbye Gillum of Pine Bluff, AR; brother Ocie L Swaim of Dallas, TX, formerly of Hamburg, AR; Shelly (Nona) Swaim of Gould, AR; Royce (Sandra) Swaim of Crossett, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, “honorary” family members and friends.
Betty was a Baptist and at the time of her passing a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. She was passionately devoted to God and family. Although Betty only had one biological child, countless folks considered her a second mother and many actually referred to her as “Mom”.
Betty took much pride in tending to her home and yard. One could frequently find her on her porch in her favorite chaise lounge, enjoying the different seasons, reading her Bible or laughing at the antics of her birds and squirrels. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and daughter and even took several trips out west with her brother, O.L.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29th, 2024 from 5-7 pm at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs, AR. Services will be held Friday August 30th, 2024 at 10am with Pastor Ronnie Inman officiating, followed by burial at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, AR.
