Brenda Kay Shifflett, of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose greatest joy in life was taking care of the people she loved. Her family meant everything to her, and she devoted her life to making sure they were cared for, loved, and surrounded by the warmth of home.
Brenda was a true homebody. If she wasn’t at work, there was nowhere she would rather be than at home. She loved the simple comforts of everyday life—especially her morning coffee, a good book, and spending time with her family and pets.
She loved being outdoors, especially during the beautiful seasons of spring and fall. She found happiness tending to the flower beds around her home and watching the birds. Hummingbirds held a particularly special place in her heart. Brenda was also an animal lover who always seemed to have a beloved pet by her side, each one receiving the same love and care she so freely gave to everyone around her.
Brenda loved to cook and was known for making the meanest sloppy Joes known to man. Her grilled cheese sandwiches came in a very close second, and no meal was complete without her perfectly made sweet tea. These simple things became treasured memories for the people lucky enough to share them with her.
She also had a passion for reading and could happily settle in with a good book. And when it came to television, Brenda loved her crime shows. She could spend hours watching CSI, ID, and Forensic Files, following every mystery and case with genuine interest.
Brenda had many friends and cherished the people she worked with. She absolutely loved her coworkers and formed friendships that meant so much to her. Her kindness, warmth, humor, and caring nature touched the lives of many people, both at work and in her community.
Above all else, Brenda loved her family dearly. She was the kind of person who gave of herself without hesitation and found joy in caring for those around her. Her love was felt in countless everyday acts—in a home-cooked meal, a cup of coffee, a perfectly tended flower bed, or simply being there when someone needed her. Her family will forever carry those memories in their hearts.
Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Shaw; and her two brothers, Ronald Shaw and Donald Shaw.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved mother, Betty Tobin; her husband, Charles Shifflett; her siblings, Linda Lane, Annette Norman, Jaenette Hamilton, and Eugene Shaw; her daughter, Teresa Kay Shifflett; and her son, Brandon Shifflett. She is also survived by her grandson, Braxton Shifflett, and his wife, Lydia, and their two children, her precious great-grandchildren, Oakley Sage Shifflett and Madelynn Grace Shifflett, as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Brenda’s life was a beautiful testament to the love found in family, friendship, home, and the simple moments that make life special. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Though she is no longer here to share a cup of morning coffee, tend her flowers, watch the hummingbirds, spoil her pets, or gather her family around her, the love she gave will remain forever.
Her memory will live on in every flower that blooms, every hummingbird that visits, every family gathering, every favorite recipe, and in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have called her wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, coworker, and friend.
She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Ambulance Service, the Garland County Sheriff's Department, Mr. Gene Blackwell of the Jessieville Volunteer Fire Department, and the medical staff at National Park Medical Center.
