August 31, 1971 – October 29, 2023
Curtis Gray Burks, beloved son, brother and family member, departed this world on October 29, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Curtis was born on August 31, 1971, to his proud parents, Sammy Roger Burks and Linda Helms Burks, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Curtis’s heritage ran deep as a member of the New Salem Methodist Church having family members that attended since the 1850’s. He was a 1991 graduate of Lakeside High School and attended National Park College. He worked and retired in Food Service from Lakeside School District.
Curtis loved listening to Gospel and Country music. He was an avid reader of history and cherished his beloved book collection. Engaging in conversations with family, friends and new acquaintances was a passion of his. He enjoyed passing on all he read about throughout his life time.
Curtis is preceded in death by his father Sammy Roger Burks, maternal grandparents Leland and Dorothy Helms, and paternal grandparents Samuel and Barbara Burks.
He is survived by his loving mom, Linda, with whom he shared a special bond. Her unwavering love and support nurtured his kind and gentle heart. He also leaves behind his brother, Samuel Leland Burks -- a loving sibling who he shared precious memories with throughout their lives -- and Sam’s wife Peggy. Curtis is also survived by his Aunt Betty Schrader (JD Schrader) and Uncle Richard Helms (Johnnie Helms) as well as many cousins.
Curtis’s impact on the lives of those he touched will be remembered forever. As we grieve the loss, we also celebrate the joy he brought to our lives. He will be laid to rest at Crestview Cemetery.
