

Daniel Clayton Rice, age 93, of Hot Springs, AR, formerly from Pine Bluff, AR, passed away on July 23, 2026, at Hot Springs Village, AR, in the care of Brenda’s Loving Care Assisted Living. He was born on July 25, 1932, in Buhl, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Clayton and Ola Rice; his brothers, Harold Rice and Ward Rice; and his sisters, Miriam Walker and Mearl Rice, all of Alabama. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Rice, of Judsonia, AR.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Rice, of Hot Springs, AR; his son, Clay (Carla) Rice of Royal, AR; his daughters, Teresa Rice, of Judsonia, AR and Lisa Rice, of Searcy, AR. His stepsons, Chris (Kika) Marhenke, of Hot Springs Village, AR; Joel (Janis) Marhenke, of Mansfield, OH; and Tom (Catherine) Marhenke, of Clinton, NY. He also enjoyed being Pop to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dan retired from the Life of Georgia Insurance Company in 1994 after many years of service. Before his career, he served in the United States Army for 2 years and later, the United States Army Reserve of Alabama for 6 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Pine Bluff for many years, and attended regularly until his move to Hot Springs.
Dan’s favorite pastime was fishing and hunting with his buddies and meeting friends for breakfast at the local breakfast joint. He also loved playing music on his guitar and singing, entertaining family and friends. He was always cracking a joke and making people laugh. He loved to grill or fry up some fish and hang out with his family at gatherings.
The family wishes to pay special thanks to Brookfield Assisted Living and Memory Care, Elite Hospice and Brenda’s Loving Care for their assistance during a very difficult period of Dan’s life.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date with immediate family.
