

After graduating from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, David began his career in Organization Management. He served as Chamber of Commerce Executive for 33 years. Dave earned a certified Chamber Executive status and during his career was selected to Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, as well as Chairman of the Institution of Organization Management. For six years he was also a District Manager of the US Chamber of Commerce.
David completed the last 10 years of his professional career in Phoenix, Arizona as the President of the Phoenix Better Business Bureau.
David and JoAnn retired to Hot Springs Village in December of 1997. Dave returned to his avocation in “Musical Theatre”. Shortly after their arrival, he joined the Village Players where he appeared as Tevia in Fiddler on the Roof, Emile in South Pacific, and Don Quiote in Man of La Manachia. Dave also performed in numerous other Village Player productions. He was a member of the Village Chorale and the solo male singer for the Village Big Band. He served 8 years on the board of directors for the Hot Springs Village Symphony Guild and two years as the President.
Golf brought Dave and JoAnn to the Village, but singing gave him the greatest pleasure. Dave is survived by JoAnn, his loving wife of 60 years. His son, Michael Major and wife Jola; daughter Pamela Turner and husband Richard; son Jeffrey Major; and daughter Kelly Robertson. His 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren will surely miss their grandfather. David was preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Florence Major and his two sisters Caroline Dryer and Dorothy Strawn.
A memorial service will be held at Gross Funeral Home, 120 Wright’s Street, Hot Springs on March 23, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Arkansas Hospice at www.arkansashospice.org or the Hot Springs Village Chorale at P.O.
