

Dorothy Herrick Blundell, age 100, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. She was born September 21, 1923, in Dunkirk, New York, to George and Florence Scott Herrick. She attended Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York, where she met her husband, John E. Blundell. They were married on June 15, 1946.
Dorothy was a member of Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, serving in many capacities including that of President of the UMW at Trinity United Methodist Church, Little Rock, and Texarkana First United Methodist Church, Texarkana, Arkansas. She also served several terms as President of the Parsonettes, an organization for spouses of United Methodist ministers. While her husband, Reverend John Blundell was Director of Camp Aldersgate, Little Rock, she worked as the director of CADO, the Senior Citizen’s Program at the camp, and later as the director of the Spina Bifida Association. While living in Little Rock, she also served as a volunteer Office Manager for the Arkansas Food Bank. During the years her husband was Associate Minister at Benton, Arkansas, First United Methodist Church, she became the founding teacher of the Covenant Sunday School Class whose members were very dear to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Alice Chambers, and her husband, Reverend John E. Blundell, a United Methodist minister. Her survivors include her son, John Scott Blundell, Vienna, Austria; her daughter, Linda Hemphill (Andrew), of Hot Springs and a grandson, Brian Hemphill (Allie Aylward) of Denver, Colorado, together with two nieces and a nephew. She cherished her surviving special friends Donnavae Hughes, Nancy Rogers, Nola Roberts, and Billie Wilson as well as her good neighbors from The Cottages of Hot Springs. Dorothy loved visiting and laughing with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved music.
Graveside services will be held at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas at 10am on Wednesday, February 28th. Visitation will be at 1:30 at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church of Hot Springs. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm.
The family requests donations in her memory be sent to Grand Avenue United Methodist Church Choir Fund.
