Dorothy Riggs Parkman was born on June 11, 1933, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Robert Lee and Dora Agnes Riggs. She peacefully went to be with her Lord on July 10, 2026.
Dot spent her early years in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she developed many lifelong friendships and was actively involved in a variety of clubs and community activities. There she met the love of her life, Robert Lee Parkman, Jr., whom she married. Together they shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage.
A devoted wife and partner, Dot worked to help put her husband through medical school before dedicating herself to raising their two daughters as a loving stay-at-home mother. As her family grew, so did her entrepreneurial spirit. She founded a jewelry business, Dottie’s Diamonds and Antiques, that became highly successful, allowing her to travel throughout the country doing what she loved while meeting people from all walks of life.
Dot was a lifelong Methodist whose faith was the foundation of her life. She and her beloved husband, Bob, faithfully served the Lord and quietly shared His love through countless acts of generosity and kindness. They gave freely to those in need, never seeking recognition or praise—only the joy that came from helping others. After Bob's passing, Dot continued that legacy of giving with the same humble and compassionate heart.
Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life. She found great comfort and encouragement in reading her Life Application Study Bible and faithfully watching the teachings of Charles Stanley.
Later in life, Dot made her home in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she formed many cherished friendships. She especially enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her circle of dear friends. These years brought her great happiness and many treasured memories.
Dot lived a life filled with adventure, lasting friendships, and abundant love. She will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and loyal friend whose kindness touched many lives. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Dot possessed a rare beauty that radiated from both her heart and her spirit. She took pride in her appearance and was seldom seen without her hair beautifully styled and her makeup carefully applied. Her devoted caregivers lovingly honored that wish each day, ensuring she always looked her best. Dot's gracious spirit, infectious energy, and genuine love for life touched all who knew her.
Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Lee Parkman, Jr., and her parents, Robert Lee and Dora Agnes Riggs.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Cheryl Lynn Parkman and Sharron Leigh Parkman, as well as her beloved granddog, Blondie, who brought her much joy and companionship.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers and angels on earth, Sherita Durden and Jovita Miller, for their loving care and compassion. They also wish to thank the wonderful staff and residents of West Shores Senior Living, as well as the nurses and CNAs of Life Touch Health/Arkansas Hospice, with special appreciation to Johnnie Mae Cheatham for her extraordinary kindness, love, and dedicated care. We also wish to thank Kathy Packard for all her help.
Celebration of Life will be held at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs, Arkansas, on July 25. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the Celebration of Life service at 10:30 AM.
The service will be officiated by Pastor Allen Smith, a lifelong friend of the family. A short reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or LifeTouch/Arkansas Hospice.
