Edward was born in Hot Springs on June 19, 1933, the only child of the late William and Hazel (Maughan) Oliver. He was a graduate of Lakeside High School and attended Henderson State University before his military service. Edward completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville after serving in the Army. He taught school in the Little Rock school system while earning his master's degree at the University of Mississippi. Following a brief teaching career, Edward was employed by the Social Security Administration where he quickly moved up in management.
Edward made a major career change when he decided to pursue a degree in dentistry. He graduated from Washington University Dental School in 1971 where he served three years as class president. He practiced dentistry for 29 years in the St. Louis area. Edward loved dentistry and enjoyed his patients who became like a second family to him. He continued his education to include orthodontics to his general practice. He found joy in watching his patients gain confidence with improved dental health and a beautiful smile.
Edward returned to Hot Springs in 2000 where he continued working part time in dentistry at William’s Family Dentistry in Malvern, Arkansas until his retirement.
Edward was always generous with his talents and time. One of his greatest joys was being a volunteer coach. He coached his sons in soccer, basketball and baseball. He loved his players and enjoyed teaching them the skills needed to play the games as well as life lessons - honesty, confidence, hard work and respect for others.
Edward was a loving husband, father and son and enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved spending time with his sons - dirt bike riding, fishing, car racing, traveling and playing sports. He enjoyed going to the horse races, playing tennis, water sports, skiing and hunting as well as other outdoor activities.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Cindy; three sons, Cody, (girlfriend Sara Kirk) of Rogers, AR, Ryan (Halley) of San Jose, CA, and Randy (Linda, mother Peggy) of Milton, GA; a grandson, Liam of San Jose, CA; mother-in-law, Alice Clayton and sister-in-law, Daylinda (Craig) Pace both of Godfrey, IL; nephews, great-nephews and a great-niece.
