Dr. Emmett Barrie O’Bannon, DVM, 91, of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away Monday, June 20, 2022.
He was born March 7, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Emmitt Berry & Katie (Wren) O’Bannon. Dr. O’Bannon relocated to Arkansas to attend John Brown University in Siloam Springs obtaining a degree in agriculture before being drafted in the W. S. Army during the Korean War. After proudly serving, he enrolled in the college of veterinary medicine, University of Missouri in Columbia, where he obtained a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine. He practiced many happy years in Jacksonville, North Little Rock and Russellville, Arkansas. Barrie was a former member of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association, a former foundation board member of Heifer International Foundation, and various veterinary associations. Barrie was a faithful follower of the Baptist faith and loved his Lord and family.
He was preceded in death by a sister Betty Winchester and a great-grandson Oliver Dunlap.
Barrie is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sue O’Bannon; children, Steve O’Bannon (Ruby), Michael O’Bannon (Mary Jo), Pat O’Bannon (Jenny), Sherri Dennis (Rene’), Jeff Norris (Carrie) and Jon Norris (Dollie); sister Sharon Joy Parrish; grandchildren, Tori Dunlap, Barrie O’Bannon, Mollie O’Bannon, Jeremy Norris, Carl Dennis, Josh Norris, Sam Dennis, Taylor Norris and David O’Bannon; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 am Monday, July 18, 2022 at Gross Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. M. Barrie O’Bannon officiating. Inurnment at Rest Haven Memorial Park, Russellville, Arkansas, 10:00 am July 19, 2022.
