Harry A Metcalf

Our adored father and grandfather, Harry Ames Metcalf passed away November 15th with his children surrounding him. A memorial will be held on December 15th at 1p in Anthony Chapel in Garvan Gardens, Hot Springs, AR. All who knew Harry will be welcomed. A reception will follow at Garvan gardens. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local animal shelter.

Harry was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1936 and was raised by Harry Gordon Metcalf and Evelyn Ames Metcalf. He graduated from Little Rock Central High in 1954. Harry went to the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and earned his civil engineering degree. He met and married his first wife, Julia Wepfer, after college. Their daughter, Holly Metcalf Kinyon was born in 1960.

In 1969, Harry moved to Pine Bluff, AR with his second wife Dinah Yoder Metcalf and he adopted Brit and Sean Metcalf. After a career in highway construction, he co-founded Southern Pavers where he continued his lifelong passion, road and bridge construction. Additionally, Harry loved aviation, and enjoyed piloting the company plane. Later, family gatherings were enjoyed at Lake Hamilton where they retired in 2002. The family continued the Lake Hamilton gatherings with Harry until 2024. Boating, traveling, duck hunting, Razorbacks, Scotch, and quality time with family and friends were among his favorite pastimes. He always had a family dog or two by his side and welcomed each grandchild as they came.

Big Daddy, as he was known to his grandchildren, deeply enjoyed seeing the fine adults they have become. Harry is preceded in death by Julia Wepfer in 2005 and Dinah Metcalf in 2007. Harry is survived by Holly Metcalf Kinyon, Sean Metcalf, Britton Metcalf and his wife Angela Metcalf. Additionally, his seven grandchildren: Mason Metcalf, Payton Metcalf, Gracie Kinyon, Sierra Gribble, Bridget Metcalf, Levi King and Ryan King.
