She married Lyndell D. (Dean) Buckner on October 6, 1967 in Lahr, Germany where he was stationed with the U.S. Army. Together Dean and “Hilde” built a life, raising two sons, Bernhard and Matthew, and meeting a lot of nice folks and making good friends along the way. They moved to Hot Springs Village in July 1997. Hilde loved her neighborhood, where long walks would keep her in touch with her neighbors.
She could often be found at the Coronado Center where she especially enjoyed swimming and seeing her friends. Hilde had a heart for people, always expressing concern for their well-being and sometimes sharing childhood memories. Her stories of growing up in 1940s Germany were poignant of family life, but also interesting and educational for those who knew little if any about the experienced hardships and aftermath of war.
Hilde loved animals, especially cats, and they loved her. Most importantly, she loved her family and her God. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church for many years. Rarely did she ever miss Mass. However, she lived out her faith beyond her church into life’s daily journey, giving evidence of God’s importance and presence in her life. To those who knew her, she will be remembered as a vibrant, loyal and trusted friend. Though she missed her native Germany, she loved her Hot Springs Village home - a home she never wanted to leave. That home and her friends and neighbors will truly miss her.
She is survived by husband Dean of the home, sons Bernhard (Susan) of Lufkin, Texas and Matthew (Allison) of Benton, Arkansas and one brother, Phillip, of Germany.
There is no memorial service scheduled at this time.
