Oct 15, 1932 – October 17, 2025
Doyle Maricle, a man of faith, devoted family man, avid golfer, dog lover, and lifelong cracker of dad jokes, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born in Eddy Texas, on October 15, 1932, to Clayton and Alma Maricle, Doyle grew up as an only child on the farms and oil fields of central Texas. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1949 at the age of 16. He then attended Baylor University where he received Bachelors and Masters degrees.
Between his Baylor degrees he served 2 years active duty in the Air Force. When he returned to Baylor and was working on his Masters, he met Betty June Duff whom he married on May 22, 1957. He received his Masters in 1958 and immediately went to work for the Annuity Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas, Texas.
Doyle worked for the Annuity Board his entire career where he held various pension related positions, becoming a Senior Vice President in 1983 until his retirement in 1990. During his career, with Betty, he raised his children, Gene Alan and Julie Ann in Garland, Texas. The family were charter and very active members of Calvary Baptist Church in the early 1960s, where he continued to attend and serve as a Sunday School teacher and Deacon until his retirement.
Upon his retirement, Doyle and Betty moved to Hot Springs Village in 1992 so he could continue to pursue his lifelong passion of playing golf. In HSV, they attended Barcelona Road Baptist Church for the rest of their lives, where he served as a Deacon. Never one to stay still for long, during retirement at various times he worked in the HSV pro shops and HealthMart pharmacy, was a real estate agent, and volunteered at National Park Hospital. He was especially passionate about serving as a Gideon throughout retirement where Betty was a very active Women’s Auxiliary member.
During his 25 years of retirement, Doyle became a true dog dad for a long line of canine kids: Taz, Charlie, Lucky, Gracie, Daisy, Sophie, Harry, JJ, and Peterson.
Doyle is preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Alma Maricle and his wife of almost 65 years, Betty June Duff Maricle.
Doyle was the proud father of 2 children: Gene Alan Maricle (wife, Alison) of Carrollton, TX and Julie Ann Maricle of Hot Springs Village, AR. He was a loving grandfather to one grandchild: Alexandra Michaela Maricle.
Doyle Maricle was an outstanding Christian man—a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, faith, and laughter. He will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched.
