Was the youngest child born to Joseph and Vera Whelan in 1937 in Massena NY. He was known as Jimmy to his siblings; Lloyd, Kendall, and Dorothy, who all proceeded him in death.
Jim grew up in Massena where he completed high school, he entered the army soon after graduation. When he was honorably discharged, he went to work for Reynolds Aluminum back in Massena NY.
Jim spent his career traveling for Reynolds working at various plants around the United States and abroad. During one of those adventures in Arkansas, he would meet and marry the love of his life, Lora, who he adored. Jim and Lora were married for 43 wonderful years full of love and surprises raising a huge, blended family that consisted of Pam (Breitenberg) Tribble & husband Jeff Tribble; Jodie (Whelan) Phelps & husband Michael Phelps; Patrick Whelan & wife Maureen; Paul Breitenberg & wife Angela; Richard Breitenberg and wife Barbara; David Breitenberg & wife Susan and Stephanie Whelan Blackburn.
He was grandpa, papa, papa Jim, great grandpa and a great great grandpa to: Kaylin (Tribble) Miller & husband Matt, Jeffrey WayneTribble, Annabelle Tribble and Claudia Tribble; Todd Phelps & wife Sara, Chris Phelps, Bryce Phelps & wife Valerie and Taylor James Phelps; Bailey Whelan, Harlie (Whelan) Cox & husband Ryan; Leslie (Breitenberg) Withrow & husband Jon, Ashley (Breitenberg) Richards & husband Eric, Gabriel Breitenberg, Emma Lynn Breitenberg, Anna Grace Breitenberg and Samuel Breitenberg; Michael Breitenberg, Nathaniel Breitenberg and wife Alyssa and Kyle Breitenberg & wife Bailey; Allie Breitenberg, Ethan Breitenberg & wife Melissa; Tarrell Hoch, Haley Whelan, Alexis Whelan.

He was a great great Grandpa to Eleanor Kemp. Jim peacefully snuck away from us too quickly, but we take comfort in knowing that he is free of pain in a better place. A place where he will play endless rounds of golf while singing "Cool Clear Water" and where we are sure he is stoked to find a multi-dimensional fantasy football league with a perfect cup of coffee that is never empty or cold.
You will be missed.
