

Janet Leigh Spindle McCarthy Nielsen, age 73, originally of Denver, CO passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025 at her new home in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Born on May 31, 1952, in Denver, Colorado, Jan was the daughter of Louise (Rundle) Spindle and Thomas Spindle.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Richard McCarthy and her 2nd husband, Chris Nielsen.
Jan is survived by her daughter, Carrie (Don) Thompson of Hot Springs, Arkansas, her grandson, Arin (Mallory) Thompson of Haskell, Arkansas and her great-granddaughter, Henzlee Grace. Additionally, Jan is survived by her brother, Daniel (Bernie) Spindle, her brother-in-law, Pat (Fran) McCarthy of New Jersey, her sister-in-law, Jeanie (Frank) Pityinger of New Jersey, her brother-in-law, John (Sally) McCarthy of New Jersey, her sister-in-law, MaryBeth (Mike) McCarthy-Pawlyk of New Jersey, Kathy (Mike) Collins of New Jersey, her sister-in-law Leanne Nielsen of Madison, Wisconsin, and her many nephews and nieces.
Jan graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver, CO, honorably served in the U.S. Navy in Lemoore, CA, worked for Denver Public Schools and Great West Life Insurance, was a longtime member the Order of Eastern Star, and happily volunteered at bingo for Colorado Honor Band. In her later year, she moved to Hot Springs, AR to be closer to her new great-granddaughter.
The date of the funeral at Fort Logan National Cemetery will be announced at a later time.
