He was a graduate of Hot Springs High School Class of 1964. He played clarinet in the high school band, sitting in the First Chair. Jon was a stand-out tennis player on Hot Springs High’s first tennis team. After high school graduation, Jon went on to study briefly at Arkansas Teachers College, now known as the University of Central Arkansas. There he pledged to Pi Kappa Alpha, Epsilon Phi Chapter. Jon left Arkansas Teachers College to enlist in the Air Force and while stationed at Loring Air Force Base near Limestone, Maine Jon acquired the training necessary to his future software developer career.
Jon loved to share stories and make others laugh. He enjoyed sharing puns and trivia, reading cartoons (Garfield, Calvin & Hobbs, and Far Side), photography, bicycling, camping, hiking, swimming, and snow skiing. He sought life on the edge, possessed a strange sense of the irony, and his quick wit and sense of humor often calmed a tense situation. The many who knew him well and loved him will dearly miss him.
Jon’s beloved parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents predeceased him.
Left behind are Jon’s devoted and loving wife of 45 years Sheila Springs, brother James Edgar Springs (Georgia), niece Robin S. Akerman (Daniel) and their children Benjamin Akerman and Sara Spring Akerman, nephew Shane Springs and his son Austin Springs. Jon also leaves several cousins and many friends to cherish his memory.
