Our sweet Marie Louise Klugh passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, at the age of 92. She was born on February 5, 1933, to Dr. Alvin Petter Sr. and Marie Petter in Stuttgart, AR, where she was raised before attending Hendrix College. After marrying our dad, she spent the rest of her life in Hot Springs, AR. Marie was deeply involved in her community, where she was active in Ducks Unlimited, the Hot Springs Medical Auxiliary, and her beloved Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Divorce is unfortunate, but we could not have been more blessed to have Marie as a stepmother. She will forever be a shining example for both men and women who accept the role of stepparent. We had aces for parents, and each brought another ace into the family. Now, with Marie's passing, the aces have been played, but we were dealt a winning hand. Brad Paisley's song "He Didn't Have to Be" fits both of our stepparents-just switch the pronouns. The line, "I hope I'm at least half the dad he didn't have to be," says it all.
Marie loved the Lord and is no doubt resting comfortably in His arms. We love you, and you will so be missed, Sweet Marie! If you knew her, these phrases will be familiar: "You take care of yourself and don't overdo it." "Are you hungry? What can I fix for you?" "I love you dearly."
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Walter G. Klugh Jr.; her brothers, Alvin Petter Jr. and Robert Petter Sr,; and her son-in-law, Jeff Shannon. She is survived by Carole Klugh Shannon, E.G. "Bubba" Klugh (Sherrie), and grandchildren Rebecca Webb (Ryan), Rachel Foshi (Tony), Kendall Klugh, and Kameron Klugh. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Shirley Petter, and nephews Robert Petter Jr. (Karen) and David Petter (Monica).
Special thanks to her early caregivers Pam Murray, Tabbetha Darnley, Margaret Hoffman, and Liz Bright. Finally, we would like to thank the amazing staff in the Vista Memory Care unit at Presbyterian Village in Little Rock, AR. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs, AR on Monday, May 26, at 11:00am, where the family will receive friends afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3819 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71913.
Funeral arrangements have been made by Gross Funeral Home.
