Mary Jane “MJ” Higdon, 64, of Hot Springs, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021. She was born October 22, 1956 to the late William and Betty Golden of Hot Springs, where she was a lifelong resident. She was a free spirit with a zest for life, who marched to the beat of her own drum. A loving and devoted wife to John Paul, she would cook you a fine Southern meal, and send you home with leftovers and a full belly. Her biscuits and gravy were second to none. Mary Jane was a collector of antiques and all things sentimental, and she and John Paul traveled across the country looking for the perfect antiques. She loved her family, her friends, and she loved going to the casino.

Mrs. Higdon was predeceased by her husband, John Paul Higdon; parents, William and Betty Golden; brother Tony Golden (Pamela); sister, Devotie Rickman (Donnie).

Survivors include her daughter, Vanessa Padgett; son, Elva Dee Tedford Jr; stepson Mitch Higdon (Shari); stepson Ryan Higdon (Brandi); brother, Roy Golden (Judy); brother Willie Golden (Monica), and family friend Robyn Herrington.

A graveside service for MJ will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Mazarn Chapel Cemetery, Bonnerdale, AR.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grossfuneralhome.com for the Higdon family.

Our prayers and sympathies are with the family during this difficult time.

Mary Jane was not only family but a 'true' friend to both Chuck
and me. One of the greatest.
Mary Jane was one of my best friends. I treasure all the times we spent together.
I met Mary Jane when I was a teenager. She was such a fun happy person to be around. Always enjoying life and bringing happiness to those around her.
We grew even closer over the years. We had so many great times together either going gambling or simply hanging out and talking about life in general.
MJ was always doing something. She loved and lived life to the fullest. You couldn't help but enjoy yourself being around her. Her laugh was magical!
Mary Jane had the biggest heart and was always giving. Whether bringing something she knew you would cherish or cooking a big breakfast or a hearty dinner for you. Boy was she ever a great cook. She was this way with everyone.
Mary Jane loved to take care of everyone including the pets. Anytime I didn't bring Bear, our dog with me, she would say, "Where's Bear? Why didn't you bring Bear? Now you don't come back over here without Bear. Do you hear me?" When she came to our home, Bear always excitedly greeted her at her truck door knowing she had brought treats for him. He loved her dearly.
Mary Jane was such a dear sweet giving soul.
MJ. Our friend. Our family. You will be greatly missed. We love you!

Mary Jane was of the most caring and thoughtful people I have ever met. I loved visiting with her. She was fun, honest and had a great sense of humor. She told it like she saw it. She did not mince her words. A couple of years ago, on my birthday, she brought the most beautiful birthday cake to the lake where i was camping. It was the most beautiful cake I have ever seen. Something I will always remember is the way that made me feel. Special. I believe she made a lot of people feel special. Her kindness and thoughtfulness touched many. I will hold her memory as special also. RIP MJ... I'll look for your brightest of halos when I get there.

She knew how to cook especially around Christmas. She used to make Billy Gray and Myself homemade fruit cake. Her and John Paul were the Best Friends to me.

Mary Jane, Oh how we are gonna miss you! You were always there if I needed you, and you were always a ray of sunshine in my little mans eyes. I just dont know how we are going to make it without my best friend! My only consolation is that I know you are with Mom, Jan, and (last but not least) your dearest John Paul. I hope you are in the happiest, most beautiful place ever, because no one deserves it more. The most caring, loving, and selfless person.
Silas told me that you were an angel now. I told him you always were.
