Patrick Jansen McGuire, Sr, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to Daniel Littleton McGuire, Sr. and Gertrude (Saurage) on July 30, 1943. The youngest of nine siblings, he grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, attending Sacred Heart Catholic School, Catholic High School (Class of 1961) and LSU. He was a Certified Quality Engineer by trade, working in management positions at various companies throughout his career. After retiring, Patrick kept busy volunteering at the local hospital, serving as a Rotarian in Hot Springs, and being active in the Rock Steady Boxing program.
Patrick is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Maude (Cook); children, Shannon (Lloyd) Webre and Jansen (Lisa) McGuire; grandchildren: Caroline and George Webre; Matthew and Will McGuire; sister, Marlene Penick; sister-in-law, Sammie McGuire; sister-in-law, Clare Riviere; and brother-in-law, Bill Cook, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Juanita (MD) Croswell; Carmen (JB) Esnard; Audrey (Dave Ellis, Larry) Santos; Maxine (John) Francioni; Daniel McGuire, Jr; James Elvin McGuire; and Mickey McGuire; brother-in-law, Paul Penick; and sister-in-law, Bootsie Benton.
Patrick loved listening to music. His favorite place was in his rocking chair in front of his monster Klipsch speakers, listening to “tunes.” He loved to travel, with his favorite destination being Quebec, Canada, for its French-Canadian music. He appreciated good food and good wine and loved Maude’s cooking best of all. He was an avid LSU football fan, but games often made him so nervous that he had to turn down the sound and listen to tunes while watching. He had an affinity for writing satirical opinion letters to the editor of the local newspapers, which were often published. His dry sense of humor and wit were the hallmarks of his personality, and anyone who knew him or anyone he encountered always felt a little better when they left.
Most of all, Patrick loved being with his family. He loved his grandchildren so much and was so very proud of all of them. He never missed an opportunity to brag on each of them to anyone who would listen. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He will be dearly missed.
Patrick’s funeral mass will take place on Monday, January 15 at 10 am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at 9 am, and a celebration of Patrick’s life will follow mass in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Patrick’s name to Rock Steady Boxing Hot Springs, 2350 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, AR 71901, whose mission is to empower people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Or to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
