

Patsy Ruth Ables, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on June 5, 1934, in Gumlog, Arkansas, she was the cherished daughter of
James Madison and Ida Medora West. Her journey through life was marked by her unwavering spirit, love for her family, and dedication to her community.
Patsy graduated from Russellville High School and began her professional career as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell. Her natural aptitude for numbers and finance soon led her to a successful banking career at Arkansas Bank & Trust, where she excelled and was promoted through the ranks to become a Branch Manager and, ultimately, Vice President. Patsy played a crucial role in the development of early online banking, illustrating her forward-thinking mindset and commitment to innovation in the industry. She retired in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and excellence.
On December 11, 1964, Patsy married the love of her life, J.C. Ables, in Russellville, Arkansas. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Patsy was predeceased by her husband, J.C., her son Vic Woods, as well as her parents, seven brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her devoted children, Vivian Mitchell of North Little Rock, AR, Libby Hignight of Bismarck, AR, and Mike Ables and his wife (Lisa) of Conway, AR.
Additionally, she leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Lynn Woods, of Royal, AR, nine grandchildren, and a remarkable twenty-five great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Patsy's life was rich with involvement in her community. She was an active member of the Hot Springs Women’s Chamber of Commerce and served as president of the Association of Rehabilitation, Industry, and Business Inc. in 1998. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she found profound solace as a member of Oaklawn Missionary Baptist Church.
In her earlier years, Patsy enjoyed bowling and playing the piano, showcasing her vibrant and lively spirit. After her retirement, she embraced her love for vintage costume jewelry, engaging in buying and selling these special pieces. Her evenings often revolved around playing Mexican train dominoes with her dear friends, and she relished in the quality time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Patsy had a profound love for reading her Bible and singing or listening to gospel hymns, which nurtured her soul.
Recently, she took up painting, revealing her creative side and her passion for the beauty of the world around her. Patsy was known for her impeccable sense of style, always dressed to a 'T' and adorned with her beloved jewelry, often featuring animal print. Her vibrant personality and infectious laughter brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Patsy's funeral service will be held graveside at Frazier Cemetery in Humphrey, AR on November 3, 2025, at 1:00 PM.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs, AR at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor her memory to make donations to Oaklawn Missionary Baptist Church in Hot Springs, AR.
