Robert “Bob” Renwick Hawthorne, 87, joined his beloved wife, Doris, February 13, 2018, the first anniversary of her passing. High school sweethearts, Bob and Doris were married on May 27, 1950 and shared over 67 years of love, friends and family. Bob and Doris retired in 1987, moved to Hot Springs, and continued to travel the world. He became her caregiver when Doris was diagnosed with dementia. The last ten years Bob spent caring for Doris were the years of which he took the most pride.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Doris; son, Steven; and by his sisters, Marcia Biggs and Virginia Wedemeyer. He is survived by his daughter, Monica (Brian) Heatherton; grandchildren, Adam (Marianna) Heatherton and Amanda Heatherton; and great-granddaughter, Freya Heatherton.
Bob was born at the very end of August 1930 in Adair, Iowa to the late Ray and Agnes Berry Hawthorne. His parents and grandparents were farmers; as a child during the Great Depression, Bob decided education would deliver him from poverty. Bob earned his PhD from the University of Iowa and had a long career as an educator and administrator of schools.
