Sandy was born on April 7, 1944 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to parents Clyde and Mabel Bogy. She grew up in Eudora, where as a teenager, she played the organ for her church. She attended Henderson State Teachers’ College, where she met her beloved husband, Paul. They married in 1965 and settled in Hot Springs. During her accomplished career, Sandy taught at Lake Hamilton, St. John’s, and the Hot Springs School District, teaching both English and Spanish.
Sandy’s favorite pastimes included reading and listening to music. She loved any mental challenge and enjoyed all kinds of games, especially trivia. During her children’s teenage years, the Diedrich home hosted many a game night, with Sandy making innumerable grilled cheese sandwiches for the players. Sandy resided at Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation for the last few years of her life. She loved the staff and her friends there and led an activity called Sandy’s Corner, which featured puzzles, brainteasers, and quizzes for the other residents. Sandy cared passionately for the people in her life, keeping up with old friends through the years and easily making new ones.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Karen (Scott) Boone of Little Rock; her son, John (Amanda) Diedrich of Daphne, Alabama; and four grandchildren, Emma Boone and Luke, Hunter, and Brooke Diedrich. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Paul.
Sandy’s life will be celebrated in a service at Gross Funeral Home in Hot Springs on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11:00 am, with visitation to follow.
