

Shervena Grubbs was born February 10, 1931, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was the eldest of five children born to Sherrod Bradford Thompson and Melvena White Thompson. Her siblings were twin sister Rebena Thompson Graham, sister Rose Marie Thompson, and twin brothers Sherrod Bradford Thompson II and Fred Burgess Thompson II.
Shervena was raised in Russellville, Arkansas. She graduated from Russellville High School in 1947. She and her twin sister Rebena were majorettes for the Cyclone band. She married Robert Smead Grubbs in 1948 and moved to Hot Springs where she resided for the remainder of her life.
Shervena enjoyed jobs that involved dealing with others. Her career included being a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone, sales jobs with Stanley Home Products, Teague Furniture and Adrianne Kahn Jewelry, and Century 21 and Crye-Lieke real estate. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Hot Springs where she and her sister Rebena served as greeters for several years.
Shervena was preceded in death by her husband Robert Smead Grubbs, parents Sherrod and Melvena Thompson, sisters Rebena Graham and Rose Thompson, brother Sherrod Thompson and son Donnie Grubbs.
She is survived by her son Bobby Grubbs of Hot Springs, daughter Gloria Bates (Rob) of Longview, Texas, daughter Lynn Grubbs of Hot Springs, brother Fred Thompson (Lynda) of San Marcos, California, and sister-in-law Judy Thompson of Hot Springs. Other survivors include her grandchildren Bryan Bates (Jacelyn) of Thomasville, Georgia, Becky Bates Simmons (Chip) of Camden, Arkansas, and great-grandchildren Brylee Bates, Griffin Bates, Hattie Simmons and Bella Simmons.
A private graveside service for family members will be held at a later date. Her final resting place will be Ebenezer Cemetery near Fordyce, Arkansas.
