

Steven "Pops" G. Schaffer, 73, of Hot Springs Village, passed away unexpectedly at home on 3/27/25. He was born on 10/2/51 in Des Moines, IA to Ted and Fran Schaffer. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his sister Donna, brother-in-law Jeff, brother Teddy, aunts, and uncles. He is survived by two daughters, Stephanie (Jonathan) Sams of Hot Springs and Jessica (Jeff) Huitt of Davis, CA, his grandsons Kaeden, Eian, andTanner Sams and Jack Huitt, his sisters Connie (Kelly) Sherman of Pleasant Hill, IA and Kathy (Rob Barnett) Olsen of Columbia, SC, and a whole clan of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Steve started working construction at a young age with his father. He worked over 20 years for brothers Mark, Larry, and David Mitchell building houses. Not only was he a very talented wood worker but an amazing artist. He donated wood carvings several times to Ducks Unlimited. You can even find some of his work at The Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos, PA.
Steve served many years with the Jaycees. He even had a hand in building the Jaycees Christmas parade floats. He will be missed tremendously by all. His daughters request to come dressed in nice blue jeans and nice shirt. Steve was not a fancy man, but he did like to look nice.
A visitation/memorial service will be held on Saturday April 5th at 1:00 pm at Gross
