Born on March 31, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Tom was the son of the late Leo Joseph Ross and Darlene Catherine Ross. He lived a life defined by faith, family, and an unwavering sense of service.
A graduate of the University of South Dakota with a degree in history, Tom excelled both academically and athletically, becoming a standout track athlete. His love of history remained with him throughout his life, and he could often be found immersed in a history book.
Tom proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant and Tank Commander in the United States Army. Following his military service, he pursued a distinguished 30-year career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Tom cherished the years he and his wife, JoAnn, spent living in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He found great joy in model railroading and delighted in sharing his intricate train layouts with his grandchildren, creating memories they will treasure forever.
A devoted member of St. John's Catholic Church, Tom faithfully served as an usher and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He also volunteered at CHI St. Vincent Hospital for over 10-years and loved assisting families in their time of need.
Above all, Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He measured a life well lived not by accomplishments or accolades, but by the love he shared with his family and the lives he touched along the way.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, JoAnn Hilliard Ross.
He is also survived by his sons Jerry Ross (Tonya), Tim Ross (Sarah), and his daughter Lisa Ross Ladd (Eric.)
Additional survivors include his siblings, Jeanne Murray, Mike Ross (Paulette), Pat Ross (Lissa), and John Ross (Nancy).
The Lord also blessed Tom with many grandchildren: Dr. Ashley Ross Stephens (Cody), Allie Ross, Morgan Ladd, Claire Ross, Matthew Ladd, Anna Ross, Marissa Ladd, Nate Ross, Bella Ross, Kasin Ross, Alex Ross, Zaelee Ross, and a great grandson, Samuel Stephens.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all first responders who assisted in Tom's care, especially the Garland County Sheriff's Office, Piney Fire Department, Lake Hamilton Fire Department, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and the 70 West Fire Department. Their compassion, professionalism, and dedication will never be forgotten.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, preceded by the Holy Rosary at 10:00am and visitation at 10:30am.
