Though Uva Breckling’s heart came to rest at the age of 98, her love and memory will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her. Beneath her strong and sometimes stubborn spirit was a woman who was deeply loving, gentle, and giving—a steady source of warmth and care for her family and friends.
Uva passed peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 30, 1927, to Marcus and Cynthia Kinsey, in Mazarn Township, Montgomery County, Arkansas, she was one of seven children. She was preceded in death by siblings Willis Kinsey, Calvin Kinsey, Hermas Kinsey, Hazel Bryant, Vernon Kinsey, and Edith Fry. She is survived by her children Karen Greene, Marcus Greene, and Cynthia (James) Mullett, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life. Uva was preceded in death by her beloved son James B. Greene, the children’s father James O. Greene, second husband William Schachle, and later by her husband Julius Breckling.
In the mid-1950s, Uva and James owned Greene’s, a clothing store in Great Bend, Kansas, where she developed her lifelong eye for fashion. She later enjoyed a successful career in retail with JCPenney for more than 30 years and at Palais Royal in Houston, Texas, where she earned many awards for her sales achievements. Her elegance and sense of style were evident every day in the way she dressed—always with grace and class. In the 1960s, she also pursued real estate, proudly passing the Kansas State Real Estate exam and enjoying success in the field.
Beyond her professional life, Uva had many passions. She loved bowling, playing bridge, and dancing, and she carried a joyful spirit into all she did. But above all, her greatest love was for her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren filled her life with meaning, and she held each of them close in her heart.
Uva was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church in Hot Springs, where her faith and community enriched her life.
