Verla was married to my husband’s only uncle, Glenn. She was the sweetest, kindest, true southern lady I had ever met! ( I’m from Iowa!)  her hospitality and fabulous cooking skills are talked about frequently. I’m so thankful my children got to know her, even through such brief visits in Hot Springs. Love and miss Aunt Verla!

I first met Verla when I was a kid.  She was my dad's secretary from his days at the Ouachita Mental Health Center through his time in private practice.  It would be hard to talk of Verla without mentioning her enormously positive attitude and her titanic laugh!  They say that laughter is healthy.  It's no wonder she bounced around like a Jr. High cheerleader well into her golden years.
 Verla and my dad were married after my mom passed away.  They were very compatible and enjoyed a number of VERY HAPPY years together.  Sadly, my dad developed Alzheimer's disease and his cognitive decline was severe.  For over 5 years, Verla cared for him as the disease stole him from us.  While one might expect a spouse to care for a loved one in such a situation, the level of care Verla gave my dad during that time was beyond measure.  She never gave up hope, and ALWAYS made sure he was fed, bathed, and comfortable.  As difficult as it was to watch my dad go through such a devastating disease,  his long-term care was never a concern because of Verla.  I will be forever grateful for Verla Olsen Leslie.
