Verlene Lou Oliver, 81, of Hot Springs, was called to Heaven, June 15, 2019 where she was reunited with her daughter and best friend, Marsha Ann King; her sisters Lorene Traywick and Opal Scott; her brother, Hershel Weatherford; and her parents, Leland and Nellie Kizer Weatherford.
She was called to teach Sunday school to young children and adults at Oma Community church and in this gifted many with their first knowledge of God’s love and the hope of eternal life. People at church and in life were blessed by Verlene’s gentle nature, quiet humor, abundant love, and genuine kindness.
A proud homemaker and flower gardener, Verlene was dedicated to her family. She was the favorite aunt to many; the much loved sister of Wilma Walker and Curtis (Geraldine) Weatherford; the precious mamaw to Melissa King and Hannah Oliver; the adored mom of Jerry Don Oliver; and the beloved wife for more than 63 years of James Robert (Jr.) Oliver.
Verlene’s goodbye was most often a hug and a confirmation of how much she loved you. And she did. She loved us all.
A visitation will be held at Gross Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 1pm and funeral service beginning at 2 pm with Gwin Horton and Joe Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Rushfork Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers are Louise Mehalic, James Wright, Tommy Traywick, Jeff Erwin, and Verlene’s church family at Oma Community Church.
