

Bertha Ann Thomas Franklin, 72, affectionately known as “Evelyn”, a native of Montegut, La and a resident of Thibodaux, LA passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 1:58 am of a massive heart attack, at Thibodaux Regional Health System surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be observed on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Cornerstone Baptist Church 3830 Hwy 56 Houma, LA 70363. Visitation and funeral services will be observed on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 10:00AM until funeral time at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mt Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Chauvin, LA.
She was educated through the schools of Terrebonne parish. She graduated from South Terrebonne High School in 1970. After graduation she attended college in New Orleans to train as an Executive Secretary. She then went on to work briefly for an Insurance Company and later Terrebonne General Medical Center as a Ward Secretary. She formally retired after her brain surgery in 1982. While the doctors thought her life was over, her Master knew it was just beginning. She learned to walk and talk again and went on to enjoy her life.
She was always willing to help others and would do whatever she could to put a smile on your face. When she discovered Facebook, she made sure to like every post and picture. She may not have been out and about, but you knew she was thinking of you.
Memories will forever remain in the hearts of her son, Floyd (Ashley) Franklin Jr of Houma, LA; daughter Shameka (Albert) Franklin Swan of Thibodaux, LA. Brother, Fields (Joan) Thomas Sr. of South Boston, VA. One brother-in-law Major Joseph Leroy Williams (Ret.) of Houma, LA; Three grandchildren; Davonte, Destiny, and Tyron. One goddaughter, Dr. Lori (Michael) Gardiner of Houma, LA; One godson, Walter Jones of Houma, LA. A great-granddaughter (expected October 2025) and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Bertha Ann “Evelyn” was preceded in death by her parents, Fields and Oceola Thomas, Sr.; her paternal grandparents Wallace Thomas and Bertha Simmons Thomas; her maternal grandparents David and Martha Smith; her sister Mary Lee Thomas Williams; her brothers Leroy Thomas Sr. and Wallace S. Thomas; her niece Christina Michelle Thomas; and nephew Wallace S. Thomas II.
