She accepted the Lord Savior Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at the New Hope Baptist Church (New Orleans), by the late Rev. Freddie H. Dunn.
Bertha and her mother moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where she would eventually attend the Charity Hospital School of Nursing and completed training as a Licensed Practical Nurse beginning a lifelong journey in the nursing profession. Bertha worked at Touro and Charity hospitals in New Orleans, before moving to Houma, Louisiana where she joined the staff at South Louisiana Medical Center which became the Leonard Chabert Medical Center. On February 12, 1984, Bertha married her soulmate Alvin Monic at a small intimate service at Christian Fellowship Church in Houma, Louisiana. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Theology from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master's of Divinity Degree from the United Theological Seminary in Monroe, Louisiana.
Bertha has been a Sunday school teacher, choir member and choir director while continuing to provide a foundation of faith for her children.
