

At a young age, Betty accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Reverend T.J. Ellis at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church. She faithfully served as the church secretary for several years and was a dedicated member of the Senior Mission. She later joined the Gibson Community Outreach Mission, where she served as the group’s secretary, treasurer, and a member of Sunday school class. Betty also shared her gift of song as a member of the senior choir, the young adult choir, and the Golden Voices.
Betty was united in holy matrimony to the late Willie W. Gaither.
She received her education through the Terrebonne Parish School District and continued her studies at Straight Business College and Southern University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Betty devoted more than 30 years of service to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where she was known for her professionalism, kindness, and commitment to excellence.
On September 4, 2026, at the age of 85, Betty transitioned peacefully to her eternal home.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie W. Gaither; her parents, Theodore Brown and Bertha Rollins Brown; her siblings, Theodore P. Brown Jr., Mary Louise B. Lewis, and Irma B. Volter; her paternal grandparents, Jordan and Louise Rollins; her maternal grandparents, Gabriel and Lucy Brown; her father-in-law, Cleveland Gaither; her mother-in-law, Eva Gaither; and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sister, Louella B. Ray of Gibson, LA; her loving brother, Donald Brown (Norma) of Corona, CA; her sister-in-law, Rose Brown of Gibson, LA; her godchildren, Dana Watkins, Krystal Ray, Akhari Rainey, and Lydia Muse; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Betty loved her family deeply. All who knew her recognized the unwavering affection she held for her sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends, church family, and pastor. Her legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to live on through the many lives she touched
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12th at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church 4928 North Bayou Black Drive in Gibson, LA. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until funeral time at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery.
