Carmen Hamilton Robinson

Carmen Clare Hamilton Robinson was born on Mar. 19,1947 in Houma, Louisiana to the late Allen Augustin Hamilton, a machinist, and Lucia Legaux Hamilton, a homemaker. Carmen was the third of seven children born to this union. She passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family.

Her presence will be deeply missed. Carmen was united in holy matrimony to the late Benjamin “Butch” Robinson and had one daughter, Robin Rene Robinson, whom she dearly loved. Carmen is survived by her daughter, Robin, and six siblings: Lucia Haywood, Genevia Middleton, Allen Hamilton, Valerie Gray, Marian Hamilton, and Nancy Laughman. She is also survived by brothers-in-law: Robert Middleton, Roger Laughman, and Ian Gray; and a sister-in-law: Karen Hamilton.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Allen Augustin Hamilton and Lucia Legaux Hamilton; her husband Benjamin Robinson; and her brother-in-law Mason “Mike” Haywood. Carmen was a graduate of St. Lucy High School. She attended Mercy College of Detroit and completed her B.A. in Education from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received her Master’s plus thirty hours from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL). Carmen was a believer that education was key, and she continuously loved to learn.

Carmen was a passionate, dedicated lifelong educator who loved working with children of all ages. She had a genuine drive to help her students succeed both in and out of the classroom. She taught at: Lafayette Elementary School in New Orleans, Louisiana; at Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO); at Honduras Elementary School in Houma, Louisiana; and at Village East Elementary School in Houma, Louisiana. Carmen was a Guidance Counselor at South Terrebonne High School in Houma, Louisiana.

She served as Vice Principal at Terrebonne High School in Houma, Louisiana for over a decade. Carmen retired from the Terrebonne Parish School District and later enjoyed working with the Terrebonne Education Association (TEA) Federal Credit Union community. She served on TEA’s Board and on its Supervisory Committee for several years. During her lifetime, Carmen enjoyed taking pictures of her family, gardening, and cooking. She loved listening to Motown Music and laughing with the people around her.

Carmen was always telling a joke, and she could always make you smile. She was a talented seamstress, making several carnival ball gowns. She was an organized planner of many family vacations and enjoyed traveling to new places with the people she loved.

Carmen leaves behind a host of family and friends. Her life touched many people, and her memory will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family would like to thank each and every one of you who have come to celebrate her life. Her legacy lives on through each memory of her that we will cherish and share.  

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 8594 East Main Street, Houma, LA 70363, on September 26, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:45 am.  

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 8594 East Main Street, Houma, LA 70363, on September 26, 2026, at 11:00 am.  

Interment will follow immediately after the service at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery, 8594 East Main Street, Houma, LA 70363.
