Charles Harris

Charles Harris was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and man of faith whose life was marked by hard work, service, and love for his family and community.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army. Throughout his working years, he was employed as a porter with Terrebonne Bank & Trust and was also self-employed as a seafood seller. He was known and loved by many throughout the community, including those he met at Shell Station.

A man of faith, Charles faithfully served as an usher for many years and treasured the fellowship of his church family. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, cooking and watching the New Orleans Saints. He also shared a special bond with his beloved pet, Boosie.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Onita Ruffin Harris; his daughters, Gwen Harris, Sandra Brown, Barbara Jean Carter and Linda Wolfe; his sons, Ervin Carter Jr. and Wayne Carter; his parents, Fred and Nonie Harris; his brothers, William Harris and Howard Harris; and sisters, Freddie Mae O’Neal, Hallet Coleman, Dorothy Verdin, Otis Moses, Hattie Mae Rowser, and Sarah Wolfe.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his sons, James Carter Sr. (Reka), Charles Foster, and Ricky Harris (Janice); his daughters, Patricia Harris, Cynthia Harris, Rose Cheavis (Reginald), and Jo Ann Coleman (Herman Sr.); his granddaughter, Andrell Jones (Stanley); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, church family, and dear friends.

Charles will be remembered for the life he lived, the love he shared, and the many lives he touched. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church, 3755 Bayou Black Drive, Houma, Louisiana.

Burial will follow the service at St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery.
