Ernest Banks, Sr., 82, a native of Mississippi and a resident of Houma, LA, died Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 1:11 a.m. at Terrebonne General Medical Center. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until funeral time at the church. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Greater New Salem Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Southdown Cemetery. He is survived by: his wife, Alma Simmons-Banks; two sons, Ernest R. Banks, Jr. of Gretna, LA and Andrew (Ethel) Banks of Houma, LA; one daughter, Rosa Banks-Bolden of Houma, LA; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Leroy and Henrietta James-Banks; sisters, Mary Banks, Irene B. Johnson, Edna B. Brown, and Martha B. Smith; brothers Arthur and Edward Banks; and two grandchildren, Brittney Rae and Zachary Tyler Banks. Jones Funeral Home of Houma in charge of arrangements.
