Kenneth Jasper was born on August 8, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and peacefully answered God’s command on August 14, 2026, at 5:38 PM at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson, Louisiana. Although his family loved him deeply, God loved him best.
Evening Viewing and Visitation will be held from 5:00PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home, 230 S. Hollywood Rd, Houma, LA 70360.
Viewing will resume on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 8:00AM until time of service at Residence Baptist Church, 2605 Isaac St., Houma, LA 70363 ---with United Veterans League military honors before service. Funeral Service will begin at 10:00AM. Pastor Howard Smith, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery Mausoleum.
Kenneth was baptized on July 10, 1960, by Rev. Alvin C. Daniels at Philippian Baptist Church in Convent, Louisiana. There, he faithfully attended Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and sang in the Junior Choir. His early foundation in faith shaped the strength, humility, and compassion that defined his life.
He attended Central Elementary School and graduated from Central High School in 1969. Kenneth was a gifted athlete who excelled in basketball, football, and track. His talent on the court was undeniable—he once scored an impressive 41 points in a single basketball game.
In March 1970, Kenneth answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Army. He served honorably in the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal. He received an honorable discharge in November 1971, returning home with courage, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Kenneth later moved to Houma for employment and began working with Cenac Towing Company. It was there that he met the love of his life, Barbara Scott, and on December 14, 1974, they exchanged sacred vows. By God’s grace, mercy, and the support of their “village,” they lovingly raised three sons: Purcell Powers, Kenneth Jerrell, and Dr. Byron Kentrell Jasper.
Kenneth worked for many years in the automobile and oilfield industries before joining the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he served faithfully as a deputy sheriff, lieutenant, and bailiff until his health began to decline. He also taught, coached, and refereed basketball throughout Terrebonne Parish, pouring his heart into the youth he mentored. His influence extended far beyond the court—he cared deeply, encouraged consistently, and believed in the potential of every child he encountered.
Kenneth lived his life anchored in his favorite scripture, John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”, - which reminded him daily of God’s love, sacrifice, and promise of eternal life. This verse shaped his walk with Christ and the way he treated others.
Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 51 years, Barbara Scott Jasper; his sons, Purcell (Alicia), Kenneth (Shatoya), and Dr. Byron K. (Dr. Markeiya) Jasper; his grandchildren, Kyron, Kaylie, Kenneese, Kahlani, Madison, and Malik; his sisters, Carolyn Jasper Daigre and Pastor Shelia Jasper Hill; and his bonus children, Derrick (Shantell) Williams, Sr., Harry (Monique) Bonnet, Chad A. Clay, and Jerren J. Castle. He is also survived by bonus grandchildren: Derrick “Tank” Williams, Michael “Tre” Crawford, Harper Marie Bonnet, Mia Alexandria Macks and Kayla Aniya English along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dallas Jasper, Jr. and Albertha Robichaux Jasper; paternal grandparents, Dallas Jasper, Sr. and Alma Grimes Jasper; maternal grandparents, Lawrence Robichaux, Sr. and Rebecca Tillman Robichaux; mother-in-law, Audrey Belle Thomas; father-in-law, Emmanuel Scott; brothers-in-law, Albert Daigre, Sr. and Michael Hill; and niece, Kimberly Ann Krischelle Daigre.
Kenneth’s life was one of service, devotion, and unwavering love—for God, for his family, and for his community. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his children and all who were blessed to know him.
