“I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
Melvin Cornell Scott transitioned on June 21, 2026, at the age of 56. He was born on January 18, 1970, in Houma, Louisiana. Melvin was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and strength touched the lives of many.
Melvin was the son of Clarence Scott, Sr. and the late Virginia Woods Ross. He was baptized at an early age at St. Luke Baptist Church on Bayou Black.
Melvin attended Terrebonne High School, where he was a point guard on the basketball team. In his younger years, he aspired to become a rapper and traveled with the late Larry Banks, performing around town, be-bopping and breakdancing to any beat. God, however, had other plans for his life.

Throughout his life, Melvin was known for his love and compassion for others. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and found great joy in being with his daughters and grandchildren.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his father, Clarence Scott, Sr.; two daughters, Jazzi Thompson and fiancé Jujaun Wilkerson of Houston, Texas, and Melony (Kyle) Lynch of Metairie, Louisiana; two sisters, Patricia Harding and Carolyn Henry of Houma, Louisiana; four brothers, Randolph Scott, Keon Jackson, and Travelle Scott, all of Houma, Louisiana, and Cory (Erin) Williams of Gonzales, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Janiya Ray, JaMond Matthews, and JaZariah Wilkerson; three sisters-in-law, Betty W. Scott, Carmen Seymore Scott, and Phyllis McGee Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother-in-law, Edgar Henry of Houma, Louisiana; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Woods Ross; stepmother, Paulette Netter Scott; one sister, Geraldine Scott; two brothers, Clarence Scott, Jr. and Ronald Scott; his paternal grandparents, Aurestile, Sr. and Pinkie Atkins Scott; and his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Lilly Calloway Woods.
