Michael Anthony Dewey, 66, of Houma LA, passed away on April 29, 2026, at 5:37 PM surrounded by loved ones. Michael was born on March 19, 1960, in New Orleans, LA to the late Peter and Emma Nash Dewey. He was the youngest of seven children.

Michael grew up in Houma, LA and attended School for Exceptional Children (SEC) and Terrebonne Arc (TARC) for 40 years. He was baptized at an early age at New Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church by the late Rev. Kermit Simmons. He was a faithful member of Residence Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Howard Smith, Jr.
Throughout his life Michael was known for his kindness humor dedication and faith. At TARC, Michael packaged carnival beads for parade floats. He later worked in Unit 17, where he enjoyed creating decorative artwork. Michael was especially proud of his artwork and often brought it home to display and share it with his family.
Though he loved his family dearly, he also had a deep appreciation for TARC family. His work brought him joy and he looked forward to each day spent among colleagues, whom he considered his extended family. He took pride in being part of his school's Bell Choir and would look forward all his performances around Christmas time. Michael also loved going to his school dances.
Michael had a funny way of keeping his family on their toes. When his sister Eva or late sister Gloria would tell him that TARC was closed for the day, he would often respond with the skeptical, “Yeah sure”. To reassure him they would gently show him proof- whether it was a text message from the school --or in Gloria’s case a letter-- something that would ease his mind. He did not like missing work.
Outside of work, Michael enjoyed dancing, singing, and spending time with his family. His hobbies included puzzling, looking through magazines, and playing his Super Mario Brothers video game. Michael had a spirit that was unforgettable. He found happiness in the things he loved and shared that joy with everyone around him he had a deep passion for wrestling (WWE) and knew just about all of the wrestlers (both old and new) which brought him excitement and enjoyment. He really loved collecting wrestling books over the course of his life. Michael was especially fond of Michael Jackson whose songs never failed to bring a smile to his face.
Michael looked forward to Mardi Gras each year and loved spending it with family. Michael loved and deeply adored ALL of his family and any time spent with them was meaningful to him. Among the many visits he enjoyed there were a few places he especially looked forward to going: his niece Kim's home, going by his nephew Pat and his cousin Shannon's home which he affectionately referred to as, “On the Hill”. Holidays were especially important for him because he knew it would involve a big family gathering. He loved going to church and being surrounded by loved ones, family, and friends. Family and friends will remember him most for his love for family, devotion to faith, and his joyful spirit.
On April 29, 2026, Michael was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by three sisters, Alma Dewey of Biloxi, MS, Eva (Charles) Ruffin of Houma, LA, and Deloris (Rev. Ronald) Cojoe of New Orleans, LA; He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will continue to cherish his memories as he takes his heavenly rest.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Emma Dewey; one brother, Charles Dewey; and two sisters, Gloria Morris and Shirley Scoby; and maternal grandparents, Henry and Fannie Nash.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Terrebonne General Medical Center, AMG Rehabilitation Hospital, Chateau Terrebonne Healthcare, and St. Joseph’s Hospice for the care that he was provided until his departure.
