Mildred "Poonie" McGuire-Jenkins

Mildred ""Poonie"" McGuire-Jenkins, 73, a native of Morgan City and resident of Houma, died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 3:27 p.m. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until funeral time at the church. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at First Corinthian Baptist Church, 1114 Church St., Houma, LA 70360. Burial will follow in Southdown Cemetery. She is survived by: two sons, Roger and Terry Short of Houma; two daughters, Lorie Lee Short of Kenner and Yolanda (Quinton) Coleman; seven sisters, Bernita McGuire of Gibson, Patricia (Alvin) Jones of Morgan City, Rose (Robert) Singleton of Patterson, Paulette Randall of Napoleonville, Rosetta Watson, Brenda Bonnet and Sylvia McGuire all of Houma; one sister-in-law, Irma Stewart; one brother, Paul McGuire; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Solomon Jenkins; one daughter, Gwendolyn Short; her parents, Clarence and Mary Mitchell-McGuire; one sister, Magdaline Campbell; five brothers, James, Horace, Claude (Betty), and Clarence McGuire, Jr. and Herbert Thomas; and three brothers-in-law, Robert McGuire, Leo Randall and Harry Bonnet.
