On Thursday, February 9, 2023, Nellie Marie Kirt entered eternal rest, peacefully amongst family to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No, the tears won’t stop falling, however we know that God will wipe away every tear and heal all broken hearts.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, 1101 Main St., Franklin, LA.
Nellie Marie Kirt was born on Saturday, January 30, 1943, in Verdunville, Louisiana to Earl and Naomi Kirt Sr. She was the 3rd child out of 5 siblings. With her dad being the deacon of Little Zion Baptist Church, she was taught about the bible and learned the teachings of Christ. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior as a young adult. While in Verdunville, she attended Verdunville Elementary and later attended Willow Street High School where she graduated in 1961. Upon graduation, she moved to Galveston, Texas and became a Nurse’s Aide while attending UTMB in Galveston. After long hours of study, she received her LVN license around 1970 and started working in the field that she so loved - Nursing: She loved helping people get better. While in the Nursing filed, she worked at several hospitals: Park Plaza, St. Elizabeth, Memorial Hermann, and MD Anderson which she would retire from.
In 1973, she welcomed her first born son and named him Quantriay. A years and a half later, in 1975, she welcomed her second son whom she named, Jusnz. These two boys were the love of her life. There was nothing that she would not do for them. She worked sometimes 2 or 3 jobs just to make sure her children had a decent upbringing and never wanting for anything. Nellie was her sons greatest and loudest cheerleader! Years later, Nellie would take on another role in life: Nana; welcoming her Grandchildren; Darius, Jusnz “Ioki” Kirt Jr., Ikira (Be-Be), Joshua (Josh), Akia (Keke), Janiece (Jenny) and Jewels and Great-Grandchildren: Ja’Lahni and Aryana (who was born a day after her 80th birthday). While enjoying her grandchildren, in her spare time, she was an accomplished seamstress, crocheter and the best cook on the north side of Houston. She put that Louisiana touch and taste in everything she cooked. What mattered to Nellie most was her trust in God and her family.
She attended Miles Chapel Methodist Church in Fifth Ward. In 2003, she suffered a great loss: the loss of her mother. After working many years, she decided that it was time to leave MD Anderson so she could see her grandchildren grow up. The smile on her face would light up every time she saw them. She imparted knowledge and wisdom to each one of them. She took them to school and picked them up. Every morning they had a hot breakfast before going to school and dinner was ready for them when they got home. She loved watching Matlock and listening to Sam Cooke. As her health decline, she was diagnosed with Dementia, breast cancer, and rectal cancer.
She leaves to cherish her memories and never to mourn: Son, Dr. Quantriay “Quan” Kirt (Anthalone), Son, Jusnz Kirt Sr. (O’Keima), 7 grandchildren; Darius, Jusnz Jr, Ikira, Joshua, Akia, Janiece, Jewels, soon-to-be-grand daughter-in-law, Alyssa, (2) great-granddaughters, Ja’Lahni and Aryana, (1) brother, Eugene Kirt, (2) sisters, Ida Prevost and Sarah Sweet and a host of nieces, nephews and friends
She is preceded in death by her parents: Earl and Naomi Kirt Sr and one brother, Earl Kirt Jr.
