Roger Ruffin

Visitation will be held at Jones Funeral Home, 230 S Hollywood Rd., Houma, LA 70360, on June 16, 2026, from 9:00AM to 11:00AM.

A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00AM in the Main Chapel of Jones Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St Luke Baptist Church, 3755 Bayou Black Dr, Houma, LA 70360.

Roger was born at home on Waterproof plantation. He was the second child of 8, born to the late Louis and Picola Lyons Ruffin. Born in a family that embraced Christianity, he accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.

Roger was educated in Terrebonne Parish and was a proud graduate of Southdown High School. After high school, he moved to New York for over 30 years, where he earned a gracious living as a piano mover. Eventually, he migrated back to Louisiana where he then earned a living in domestic environmental services.

Roger leaves to cherish his memories; a loving companion, Sylvia Hayes; three brothers, Robert Ruffin of Bronx, NY, Charles (Eva) Ruffin, and Julius (Lois) Ruffin; two sisters, Carolyn R. (J.J.) Patterson, and Annette Ruffin; one Aunt, Mrs. Ruby Joy Hamilton; one Godchild, Jhira Ruffin-Duncan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Picola Lyons Ruffin; brother, Carl Anthony Ruffin; sister, Lorraine Ruffin; sister-in-law, Etta S. Ruffin; nephew, Lamar Ruffin; paternal grandparents, Eddie and Mary Allen Ruffin; maternal grandparents, Henry and Mary Hawkins Lyons.

Roger will truly be missed by family and friends.
