

Saulmon Silky Thomas, Jr., 74, affectionately known to some as “King Saul”, transitioned from this life on Saturday, April 11, 2026, in Gretna, LA, leaving behind a legacy marked by faith, service, and love.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 5:00pm-7:00pm and Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel, 230 S. Hollywood Rd, Houma, LA 70360, from 8:00AM-10:00AM. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will take place at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 27, 2026 in Louisiana Veterans Military Cemetery, Zachary, Louisiana—with full military honors.
Born April 23, 1951, to the late Rev. Saulmon Thomas Sr. and late Lillian Myles Thomas, Saulmon was a man of deep faith, unwavering strength, and profound wisdom. Saulmon was devoted to family and community throughout his life.
His spiritual foundation was strong, with deep roots in church service. Saulmon was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, a former member and Deacon at New Hope Baptist Church, and faithfully served as a Deacon at St. Stephen Baptist Church.
Saulmon was united in marriage to the late Glenda Turner Thomas and they shared a daughter Natasha Thomas Mart, and shared two sons Saulmon, III and Brent with former wife, Claudette Jones Thomas -- as well as proud grandfather to six grandchildren.
Saulmon’s educational journey began at his beloved Southdown High School, where graduated with the Eagles class of 1969. Shortly after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy in December 1969. Stationed in San Francisco, CA, Saulmon earned the ranks of E-3 Seaman and E-4 Petty Officer Third Class by October 1970. He served with distinction and pride, receiving an Honorable Military Discharge in December 1970.
Following his military service, Saulmon worked diligently as the owner and operator of King Saul Truck Driving providing services to various shipyards and offshore industries. His strong work ethic and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and community members alike.
As a community leader, Saulmon was actively involved in the Lion’s Club and the Southdown Baseball Club (Houma Eagles). He was intentional about the time he poured into the youth of his community and used his gift of encouragement to make a difference in the lives of young people. His commitment to both professional service and community impact was a testament to his character.
Saulmon found joy in meaningful conversations about the Lord, working on his computer, and engaging with family and friends. He was renowned for his gift of encouragement, especially during the homegoing services of those he knew; always ready to uplift grieving families with love and wisdom.
Although Saulmon’s departure has left an indelible mark, He has secured beautiful legacy to carry his memories with his surviving children, Natasha Thomas Mart, Saulmon (Shonda) Thomas III, and Brent Thomas; grandchildren, Breanna Thomas, Amiah Thomas, Tianna Thomas, Triniti Thomas, Brent Thomas Jr., and Brendan Thomas; Brothers, Allen Thomas and Bernell Thomas; sisters, Robertadine Stevenson, Gail Thomas Hanzy, Brenda Thomas Johnson, Deborah (Wayne) Wright, and Rebecca Hite; aunt, Lizzy Thomas Guidry; devoted cousin/caregiver, Daryl (Holly) Mills; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Saulmon was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Turner Thomas; his parents, Rev. Saulmon Thomas Sr. and Lillian Myles Thomas; adoptive parents, Beulah and Allen Myles; sister, Jacquelyn Ann Thomas Lewis; Brothers-in-law, George Stevenson and Charlie Johnson; Nephews, George Stevenson and Gerald Butler Jr.; Maternal grandparents, Willie Myles, Lizzie Cook, and Olivia “Mama Sally” Myles; Paternal grandparents, Mary Thomas and Rev. Matt Thomas.
Saulmon Silky “King Saul” Thomas Jr.’s life was a tapestry of faith, service, and love. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family of Saulmon Thomas Jr. expresses heartfelt thanks to all who have shown love and support during this time of sorrow.
