Sylvester “Man” Coleman was born on December 12, 1942, to the late Ruben Coleman Jr. and Kate Sims Calloway Coleman at Mandalay Plantation. A longtime resident of Houma, Louisiana, Sylvester answered his heavenly Father’s call and entered into eternal rest on September 23, 2026.
Sylvester was educated in the Terrebonne Parish School System. He was formerly employed by Terrebonne Funeral Home, where he worked as a driver and laborer. He later continued his working career in other areas of employment.
Sylvester leaves to cherish his loving memory his go to daughter, Congetta C. Williams, and Sheila S. Williams; one son, Terry Mitchell-Gibson; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his goddaughter, Wanda Calloway; a host of nieces and nephews; one sister, Georgia C. Wallace; and four brothers, Percey Calloway (Eula), Harry Calloway (Debra), Ezekiel Wallace, all of Houma, Louisiana, and Isaac Coleman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Sylvester will also be lovingly remembered by a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and dear friends, including Michael Lovely and Carol Sylvan. He shared a special bond with his “little buddy” and best friend, Henry D. Coleman.
Sylvester’s life and memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May his family find comfort in the cherished memories they shared and in knowing that his legacy will live on through generations.
