Sofia Gonzales

Sofia Gonzales, age 91, went to be with the Lord on February 14, 2020. Sofia was born on December 9, 1928 in Seguin, Texas. She was a gift from the Lord to her parents Maria Renteria Gonzales and Pastor Eusebio B. Gonzales. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of ten and served Him faithfully. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church on Uvalde.

Sofia married Antonio Cardona and gave birth to what she considered her greatest accomplishments, her children, Aurora, Tony and Virgilia Sue. All three were raised in the church and accepted the Lord as their Savior. Both daughters graduated from Hardin-Simmons University and each went on to receive Master's Degrees. Her son served his country proudly as a para medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and later attended Texas A & M University.

Sofia enjoyed sports. She watched all of the Astros and Rockets games on TV. She attended North Shore High School soccer games and enjoyed watching her great-grandchildren's soccer games and baseball games. She also loved singing praises to the Lord, which she did on a daily basis. Sofia enjoyed all of the attention she received from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sofia was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Jacob and Eusebio, her son Tony and granddaughter Carolyn.

Sofia leaves behind her daughter Aurora and son-in-law Veramate Champoonote. She leaves behind her precious grandchildren Adrian Hurtado and wife Brenda, Yvette Hurtado Hamlin and husband Mark, Richard Hurtado and Beatrice, Marisol Champoonote DeRosa and husband Chris, Marisa Champoonote Platt and husband Edward and Moses Champoonote and wife Yulia. She was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, Idalis, Derek, and Sarai Hurtado, Rachel, Cole, Nathan and Charlotte Hamlin, Ian Hurtado, Haven and Thaiger DeRosa, Lana Platt and Luca Champoonote. She leaves behind countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
