Adele Balbine Brodginski, 81, of Houston, Texas, passed away on November 1, 2025.
She was the only child of Dennis Brodginski and Adele Kurfuerst Brodginski, born on March 1, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In 1981, Adele earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley. She often fondly recalled her years in California with stories of beach trips, surfer boys, and tennis courts.
Working with a medical clinician she moved to Houston to work at MD Anderson. She then turned her talents toward administrative work for Catholic Institutions serving St. Laurence Catholic Church from July 1998 to October 2003 and February 2005 until she retired in March 2009. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help the church’s robust programs run smoothly. Adele was a consummate staff member providing a kind and compassionate face to those who entered the doors with the hopes of joining the church. Her calm professional presence was missed when she moved into the St. Dominic Retirement Center in 2019.
In 1997, her devotion to the Catholic faith led her to join the Third Order Franciscan, a lay organization that aims to live the Gospel in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi: prayer, fraternity/presence, service. She did indeed exemplify these charisms. In the tradition of St. Francis, she adored her cats, Heidi and Halo.
Participating from 2000 to 2003 at the Houston Cenacle, she obtained her Spiritual Directors International Certification, a professional organization that hones skills in contemplative listening and spiritual direction. She was indeed a calm, non-judgmental listener who could dispense Godly wisdom.
She was family to many who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be missed.
She will be interred at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange, California.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 11:00AM at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land, TX. 77479.
