

Adele Odom Dietrich, passed away October 14, 2010. She was born December 18, 1926 in Leesville, Louisiana. She graduated from Fair Park High School in Shreveport. Her husband, Jerry, always said that God had sent him an angel there, because it was there in English class that they first met 67 years ago.
Living in Houston since 1949, they raised their two daughters in the Baptist Protestant Faith. Adele was a wonderful mother and leader of youth. She taught many Bible Classes for young people, was a Campfire Girls group leader, teaching and leading the same group of girls from first grade through high school. In later years, Adele became a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed the fellowship of her Covenant Group and all the Community of Believers there.
Adele was predeceased by her daughter Shelle Dietrich Goble; her parents, William Travis and Sarah Odom; and her oldest sister, Estelle Hughes. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Melanie Dietrich McAfee, Grandchildren Abigail Daigle, Amanda Adele McAfee, Emerson McAfee, and their father Mark McAfee; by grandson Dietrich Goble and his father Peter Goble; great granddaughter Sydney Daigle and father Corey Daigle; sisters Mildred Bowden and Ruby Mauldin and their families.
Because of her love for family, Adele had a great interest in her family roots. She is a descendant of Steven Williams, who is buried on Governor’s Hill in the Texas State Cemetery. Steven fought in the fight for Texas Independence. Adele was a past Regent of the Brazos Valley Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy and the Jamestowne Society (as a descendent of Captain Thomas Graves of Jamestowne Colony).
Adele received her Bachelor of Arts degree, with a marketing major, from Houston Baptist University. She always led and active and balanced life. She served as President of her Garden Club in Southwest Houston, and later headed her own realty company, “A. Dietrich & Associates,” building her office building on the Katy Freeway.
Memorial Services will be held in the Chapel at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, October 21 at 4PM, with reception in the sanctuary garden after the service. Contributions may be made to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church for evangelism, in lieu of flowers,
